A Quick Thought on What Could Have Been: New Day, The Wyatts and The Draft
Tuesday night's draft was certainly intriguing. But maybe the WWE could have added some additional substance and depth to one of their best ongoing feuds.
As we head into Battleground this Sunday, we have a number of potentially captivating matches ahead of us. One of them is, undoubtedly, The New Day vs. The Wyatt Family.
But did the WWE miss their chance to add some legs to this feud? Perhaps. Allow me to pose a possible scenario that could have been:
- Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan select The New Day in whichever round. (2, 3, what have you.)
- Immediately after the announcement of the pick, Stephanie complains that her, Mick Foley and Raw were just ripped off. Receiving two superstars in a tag team together with a single pick is fine. But three? Screw that.
- After some squabbling, Shane agrees to take Kofi and Big E--the two that usually hit the ring and defend the tag team titles. Hopefully for SmackDown, Xavier Woods goes undrafted by Raw and slips back into their lap.
- But Stephanie is having none of that. Following the Kofi/Big E selection, Raw takes Woods with the very next pick. Classic Mr. McMahon type of move--a character Stephanie is currently and loosely based off of. Heel shenanigans!
- In the next round, Stephanie drafts Bray Wyatt. Then in the proceeding rounds, Wyatt's family members in Braun Strowman and Erick Rowan also find their way to Raw.
- Sadly for Woods, this leaves him to fend for himself against three Wyatts on Monday nights. The Wyatt Family goes over New Day at Battleground and reminds Kofi, E and Woods of this unfortunate circumstance. Woods' personal hell begins.
- For weeks, Bray and his brothers constantly torture and terrorize Woods. Ambushing him backstage, running in on his matches and cutting dark promos on him.
- On the SmackDown two weeks before SummerSlam, Kofi and E propose a deal. If they beat the Wyatts at SummerSlam (three on three), they get Woods back with them on SmackDown. If they lose, Woods will have to become a member of the Wyatt Family.
- Bray accepts on the go-home Raw, as do Shane and Stephanie. But as an incentive to get Stephanie onboard, SmackDown will lose a superstar of Steph's choosing to Raw if New Day loses. Shane, a man of the people and a man of his employees, signs off knowing he must get the entire trio of New Day to make his show that much better.
- New Day wins (without Bray eating the pinfall), Woods is officially reunited with his chums and everyone is celebrating with a big ol' box of Booty-O's.
This potential angle adds additional intrigue, goes further into Woods as a character and pushes along Bray's maniacal mentality, even despite a SummerSlam loss.
Just a thought.
